University of Michigan Installs New FieldTurf System at The Big House

FieldTurf trusted for over 20 years on campus, latest project features new Trico system

CALHOUN, GA / ACCESS Newswire / August 6, 2026 / As Michigan Stadium continues its reign as the country’s largest football stadium, the University of Michigan has also remained steadfast in trusting FieldTurf by Tarkett Sports to supply the venue’s artificial turf playing surface. The recently completed off-season upgrade marks the stadium’s fourth FieldTurf field, further reinforcing a collaboration of more than two decades.

FieldTurf’s enduring relationship with the University of Michigan has resulted in the Wolverines benefiting from continuous advancements in artificial turf, focusing on player safety and performance. In addition to the stadium field, new turf has also been installed at the indoor and outdoor practice fields, ensuring consistent playability across all three surfaces.

For all three fields, Michigan selected the new FieldTurf Trico system, designed with a next-level super fiber with tri-layer technology and heavyweight infill for elite performance, proven player safety, and high-grade durability. The surfacing solution is a complete reimagining of what’s possible in artificial turf.

“For more than 20 years, FieldTurf has been trusted at Michigan Stadium, which has stood as one of the country’s most iconic athletic venues for nearly a century,” said Eddy Schmitt, President and CEO of Tarkett Sports. “We’re proud to have earned that confidence through our dedication to constant innovation and a system design that promotes player safety and performance. Our science-backed approach has consistently made us the leading choice for top college athletic programs-a role we’re committed to upholding.”

The facility updates also serve as prelude to next year when Michigan Stadium, constructed in 1927, will celebrate its centennial anniversary. For its part, the 2026 season will see the Wolverines compete in their 120th conference opener as a member of the Big Ten Conference-a game that will also take place on FieldTurf at the ‘Big House’.
